When a new expressway was built, taking passing traffic away from Colonel Sander’s Restaurant, his business crumbled. The future looked bleak. About the only thing he had going for him was a mighty fine chicken recipe. Perhaps he could sell the recipe to other restaurants and earn a slice of every chicken meal sold. How hard could that be? The answer: very hard!
The first day of appointments brought nothing but rejection. So did his second. And his third. Colonel Sanders said he knocked on 1,009 doors before someone gave him a “yes” and the legend and business empire that became Colonel Sander’s Kentucky Fried Chicken was finally born.
Faithfulness isn’t always easy. There are times when the setbacks get on top of us and we are tempted to give up. But when it is toughest, don’t give up, look up.
“I will give you every place where you set your foot…. No one will be able to stand against you all the days of your life.”
Joshua 1: 3,5
What a promise this is. In the battles of life, it brings quiet assurance to know that we are empowered when we lean on God. Christ Himself and legions of angels cheer us on through the toughest times, always beside us, always bringing comfort and strength when we ask, ever onward toward the goal.
“Let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfector of faith.”
Hebrews 12:1-2
The journey isn’t always easy. Faith and life itself require steps of courage and commitment. But faithfulness is always rewarded, and in Christ we are never alone.
