Cast Care Aside – April 2020

Jesus told His disciples: Therefore, I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat, or about your body, what you will wear. Life is more than food, and the body more than clothes…… And do not set your heart on what you will eat or drink, don’t worry about it. For the world runs after those things, and your Father knows that you need them. But seek His kingdom, and these things will be given to you.  ( Luke 12: 22,23,29-31)

There are feelings and attitudes which do not conflict with our Christianity. One attitude, however, is under all circumstances completely at odds with our creed and conviction. It is worry. That’s why our Lord exhorts us, ” Do not worry about your life.” That is why the Apostle Paul encourages us, ” Do not be anxious about anything” (Philippians 4:6).

This world of sin is a vast breeding ground for all sorts of cares. People worry about their daily bread and their jobs, about their debts and investments, about sickness and health of their bodies, about sin and the state of their souls. they worry about their parents or children, about husband or wife, about their country or community, about their church and congregation. Such cares seek to invade and to infest every home and heart. All of them are included in the warning word, ” Don’t worry about it.”

When all is said and done, all these cares come from a single source and acquire weight through the same burden. This common source and burden is sin. Christ came to take away our sin. Our faith in Him makes us free from care and worry. He is our burden bearer. God our Father took the whole ugly burden of our guilt and cast it upon His Son, our Savior. For the sake of that Son and Savior our Father invites us to cast the whole heavy burden of our care upon Him.

Between his first and second comings, Christ’s believers need never anxiously ask, ” What shall we eat or drink or wear?” They can trust that the faithful Lord, who sent them the Savior, will also with that Savior freely give them all things. They can cast away care into the loving arms of our Savior, the Lord, Jesus Christ. Amen.

Remember, we can hang in there because He hung in there!!!!!

Blessings,
