Sometimes we get so caught up in the busyness of life that we never stop to either enjoy the moment or rest or soak up the powerful energy all around us. We all live busy lives and that’s okay. But it hurts us when we fail to take enough time for ourselves among the madness. This can be hard on a single mom or a soldier. It’s tough to take time out when we are up against deadlines and pressures on all sides. But God reminds us that it is important for our all-around health – especially our mental health – to set aside time to rest. That’s why on the seventh day, God rested. That’s why we have weekends (or at least Sundays). We need time to recharge and to reconnect with good stuff in our lives. Sometimes gratitude needs time to be discovered.
And let’s not kid ourselves that the world will stop without us, that we can’t afford to take a break, or that there is too much to do. There always is. Get over it. Because the world will be okay without you. Take the time to rest and recover. Go for a hike, a swim, a snooze on the grass or under a tree. Those are good things. Jesus did them all.
Remember “Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever” (Hebrews 13:8). He “laid the foundations of the earth, and the heavens are the work of His hands” (Hebrews 1:10). Everything is in hand. So, take a little regular time to rest. It will always allow us to return stronger and more effective come tomorrow. God knows that, and He designed us that way. Come Monday we are ready to go.
Have a blessed and relaxing June,
Pastor John
